What’s the Difference Between Dripping and Squonking?

In the early days of vaping, “dripping” and “squonking” were obscure terms only understood by a select few. But now, as vaping has become increasingly popular and vapers everywhere share their tips and tricks, these unique vape styles have gone mainstream. If you’re looking for a new way to enjoy your daily vape sessions, you might want to give dripping or squonking a try.

Here’s a quick guide to the difference between dripping and squonking, so you can decide if you want to make the switch.

What is Vape Dripping?

Vape dripping involves manually dripping your vape juice of choice into your vape device, making use of a specially-designed tank called an RDA. Many drippers choose this method for its potential to create huge vapor clouds, but it’s not necessarily the most convenient approach. Because you have to constantly replenish the e-liquid in your device via manual dripping, you’ll need to keep a bottle of juice on hand throughout your entire vape sessions. For some vapers, this minor inconvenience is more than worth the amped-up cloud production.

What is an RDA tank?

“RDA” is a short and sweet acronym for Rebuildable Drip Atomizer, a specially designed tank that’s intended to be used for dripping. An RDA allows you to DIY your atomizer coils, creating a design that measures up to your every expectation in terms of flavor and vapor production. RDAs also have a wide opening that makes it easier to drip in the e-liquid without making too much of a mess.

Examples of popular RDA models include the Dead Rabbit RDA, Geek Vape Loop RDA, and Vandy Vape Mesh RDA. Like most vape products, you can find a wide variety of RDAs from different brands, each one offering varying features and designs.

What Does “Squonking” Mean?

Squonking is a specific style of vaping that’s similar to dripping in that the e-liquid is manually fed into the heating element. However, while dripping deposits vape juice through the top of an atomizer, squonking achieves the same goal via the bottom of the device. Using a specially-crafted squonk mod, you will squeeze the squonk bottle to push your vape juice into the atomizer. The word “squonking” was inspired by the sound of the e-juice traveling through the device to reach the heating element.

What is a Squonk Mod?

The defining features of a squonk mod are its squonk pin and bottle. Utilizing an RDA with a hollow center pin, a squonk mod transports e-liquid to the atomizer through a narrow tube that connects to the squonk bottle. On this type of mod, where you would typically find a battery on a two-battery mod, you instead have a squonk bottle. To being vaping, you squeeze the bottle to push liquid through the tube and onto the atomizer’s wick, where it vaporizes.
